a day in the life

Perhaps you are wondering what a guy like me does with his time. Yes, I do do a lot of eating, sleeping and pooping. But I also try to make time for other enjoyable activities too.

Here I am taking a little break from the hustle and bustle of life on a bench that's just my size.

Sometimes I find it relaxing to get in touch with nature, literally.

Here I am taking a break from doing laundry. It can get overwhelming sometimes.

And, of course, I find time to write this blog.

I have yet to find a computer chair that fits me so my mom is kind enough to wrap me onto her and put the keyboard in front of me. But if anyone from Fisher Price is reading this, it's about time you made computer desks and chairs for babies. I've seen the toy cell phones and we have our own DVD series to chat about at the water cooler. But how are we supposed to IM our friends and get the lowest price on diapers if we can't even reach the keyboard!!

big baby meets little baby

This week it wasn't just my mom and I hanging out all week doing baby and mommy things. Her friend, Luisa came to visit us with her baby, Kylie, and we all did things together. We went to a baby class together, we went shopping, we went to the top of a tall building together, and we watched guys throw fish at Pike Place Market. One guy was talking to me a lot and asked my mom if he could keep me. He said if they put me alongside the fish that I would sell more fish than he does!! Luckily, my mom said no.

Anyway, as you can see, Kylie is a little smaller than me. So, when we were out together, people would look at me and say, "Oh, he's soo big!" and then see Kylie and say, "Oh she's so little!"
I guess they don't think we understand them but I do, at least. I am beginning to get a complex about my size. And it doesn't help that my mom makes me wear FuzziBunz diapers. She thinks I don't mind. But I check out all the babies in the classes we go to and usually my butt looks the biggest! But my fine head of hair distracts everyone, so it is ok, for now.

bedtime

mom, i have a little secret for you. I go to bed when i am good and ready. nothing can make me go to sleep...well, nice warm milk sometimes works, or when you turn on that contraption above my bed with lights, fish and my favorite ditty twinkle, twinkle playing and then stick that squishy thing in my mouth that i can't resist sucking on. before i know it, i am off to dreamland where milk comes out of everything i suck on. ahhhhhhh i'm yawning already!

he rolls over

last night as i was trying to put zoren to bed with the sacred double swaddle, he was twisting all about and before you know it he had gone from his back to his stomach, all the while arching his back and searching around with his mouth for something tasty to suck on. he did this again this morning after eating, so he was much calmer. but after awhile he started looking around wondering how to get out of this position. he gave me a look as if to say, "Hey, my head is heavy, can you give a baby a hand here?" and soon he was groaning so that was the end of the roll over. it will be even nicer when he can roll over and over, again.

dual custody

my mom and i have agreed to share this blog. i will write things whenever i want and she will write things whenever she wants. i finally figured out how to make my own account so i am all set! i do have to warn you that things might get boring here though. my day is generally made up of eating, pooping and sleeping, but i will try to throw in my commentary on the latest political situation in the U.S. and abroad now and then just to keep things interesting. :)

hey, i didn't write that

so i was up late last night cruising the internet (the 'rents think i sleep through the night, hah!) when i saw a new bookmark on my mom's computer entitled "zoren's page". so, of course, i checked it out. it was ok. i must first say (in case my mom reads this) it was very nice of her to start a blog for me, but couldn't she have asked if maybe i wanted to write it myself. hello?? i am 3 months old already.

so, please excuse that first post. this blog will now truly be my page (though i am going to change the title to something better).

zoren (my folks call me zorrito)

#1

i was much better about keeping everyone up-to-date on Zoren when he compactly fit inside me. i have been attempting to get this blog up and running for awhile now but there never seems to be enough time for everything i want to do during each nap he takes.

i will start with info about the present and as time allows i will back track to how he got here and anything else i want to tell you about. i hope to use this blog to let all who want to keep up with zoren's comings and goings as well as share what i have learned about pregnancy, childbirth and being a mother.

zoren is now into his 14th week of life (a bit past 3 months... until i became pregnant and now have a child i didn't understand why parents didn't just use months to chronicle their children's lives. i realized that weeks is more accurate for pregnancy and an infant's age because not all months are the same length. and different milestones are reached in pregnancy and in baby's life from week to week, so it makes sense to keep track that way.).

so, zoren is a big boy, he was 16 lbs 4 oz a few weeks ago. he still has a mostly full head of hair though he has begun to lose it around the back and sides. he is into smiling and making sounds when he is really happy. today i think i can say that he even chuckled a few times! he can roll from his back to his side when he twists his head up. he is beginning to grab at toys and if he gets one, he often brings it to his mouth. if he has no toy, he puts all his fingers from one hand in his mouth. i have heard that this helps diffuse his gag reflux making him more prepared for table foods (which will come around 6 months).
